BPA Live Theatre

The BPA Live Theatre will examine challenges for councils and parking operators around parking policy, parking on private land, the National Parking Platform, parking data, electric vehicles, payment technology trends, traffic management, the design of parking structures and skills development. There will also be breakout sessions run by the BPA Local Authority Forum.

The programme can be found here

National Parking Platform

Parkex LIVE will include sessions dedicated to the National Parking Platform, a service that will allow drivers to use their preferred app or provider to find and pay for parking wherever they are.

The NPP will create a centralised system that will ensure drivers don’t need to have a variety of apps installed on their smartphones in order to pay for parking. It’s also publicly owned and not-for-profit and will work to allow parking operators to communicate directly with service providers.

On the BPA Live stage at Parkex, representatives from the Department for Transport, local authorities and British Parking Association throughout the two days will be updating parking operators and councils on how the NPP will work in practice, how they can realise the benefits of the NPP and national rollout plans.

Alliance for Parking Data Standards

Parkex will see the Alliance for Parking Data Standards provide updates on how it is developing, managing, and maintaining a uniform global standard for organisations to share parking data across platforms worldwide.

Formed by the BPA working with North America’s International Parking and Mobility Institute and European Parking Association, APDS integrates the International Parking Industry Payment Standards (IPIPS) and the Data Exchange Standards (IPI-DataEx). The IPIPS protocols ensure interoperability and help simplify the complex world of e-payments in parking.

The BPA Live Stage will discuss the APDS with updates from BPA president Stuart Harrison and International Parking and Mobility Institute.

The Private Parking Code of Practice

The private parking code of practice contained guidance on the operation and management of private parking facilities in England, Scotland and Wales.

First published by the government on 7 February 2022, but later withdrawn, the code aims to set requirements for private parking operators to follow when enforcing parking restrictions on private land and covered several matters, including:

  • signage and surface markings
  • ticketing and payment of tariffs
  • recovery of unpaid parking charges
  • complaints handling and professional standards.

On Day 2 of Parkex there will be an update on the current situation regarding the implementation of the government's new single code of practice and associated framework. Delegates will hear from experts and practitioners about the expected timeline and impact of the new code and the support currently being provided by the BPA.

The exhibition

Parking suppliers and technology providers at exhibiting at Parkex include AppyWay, Barbour Logic, DCBL, Go2Sim, Goldbeck Construction, IPS, Metric, RingGo, PayByPhone, Sagoss, YourParkingSpace and Zatpark, among others.

Parkex exhibition is co-located with Traffex, Evex and Cold Comfort.

Parkex and the Evex show will help parking operators answer questions such as car park suitability, charging capacity, network constraints and installation.
