Birmingham New Street design plan

A £3.8m programme of detailed design work for the improvement of Birmingham's New Street railway station is to be commissioned by the Strategic Rail Authority, Network Rail and Birmingham City Council.

The station, opened in 1962, is widely regarded as an eyesore and is struggling to cope with increased train movements. Network Rail and the Strategic Rail Authority have drawn up plans for a £350m redevelopment of the station. This will include a five-fold expansion of the station...
