New government paints on a large canvas, but when it comes to issues such as roads and parking policy the details are sketchy

Labour’s new transport top bench features transport secretary Louise Haigh, rail minister Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill CBE, Lilian Greenwood (future roads minister), Simon Lightwood (local transport minister) and Mike Kane (aviation, maritime and security minister).

Labour won a mandate to govern with an overwhelming majority in the general election. In theory, a landslide should give Sir Kier Starmer’s new government enormous room to manoeuvre and exercise its will in terms of making and implementing policy.
