RAC expects fuel duty rise - and wants early switch to pay as you go charging

The RAC is predicting that there will be a rise in fuel duty in the Government’s upcoming Autumn Budget, following a 5p cut made by the last Government. The Motoring body also wants the Government to bite the bullet on a new form of ‘pay per mile’ road user taxation.

RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: “We’ve reached the conclusion the new Chancellor Rachel Reeves has no option but to put fuel duty back up to 58p a litre in October’s Budget.
