Surveillance camera commissioner role left in limbo

The Data Protection and Digital Information Bill did not receive Royal Assent before the dissolution of parliament ahead of last month’s general election.

This means there is no legislation in place to dissolve the role of the biometrics and surveillance camera commissioner and the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice.

As a result, the Office of Biometrics and Surveillance Camera Commissioner continues to support the commissioner in fulfilling his statutory duties.
