Ben Plowden is to join the Campaign for Better Transport (CBT) as its next Chief Executive. He takes over from Paul Tuohy, who will retire in the spring after five years leading the transport charity.
Plowden is currently working as an Associate with PA Consulting. He is Chair of the Transport Planning Society (TPS), a Visiting Professor at University College London, Senior Associate at the London School of Economics, and a member of the DfT’s Capital Review Panel.
Plowden spent nearly 20 years at Transport for London (TfL) in a range of senior roles including Director, Better Routes and Places Programme; Director, Strategy and Planning, Surface Transport; and Director, Smarter Travel Unit.
Shamit Gaiger, Chair of Trustees of CBT, said that Plowden’s “proven leadership in transport, strategic vision, and commitment to effect a change to better our society” made him the “ideal person to lead our organisation into its next chapter”.
Plowden said: “Better transport – transport that is safe, accessible, integrated and affordable – is essential to improving people’s quality of life and meeting the key challenges we face, including tackling social exclusion, improving productivity and decarbonising the economy.
“Campaign for Better Transport plays a critical role in improving transport for everyone and I’m delighted to be taking up the role of its Chief Executive.”
