East Lancashire Hospitals Trust (ELHT) is to scrap a bus shuttle service due to its “extremely challenging financial position”, pointing to a £26m overspend in its budget for this year.
The free-to-use bus service, which costs the Trust £780,000 a year to run, will cease operation on 31 March. It was introduced as an interim measure for five years in 2007, according to ELHT.
