The Government has approved a £290m project to make changes to junction 9 of the M3 in South Hampshire. National Highways has proposed the widening of the junction along with two new bridges on the gyratory, allowing the M3 to increase from 3 lanes to 4 as it passes through the junction.

The junction is a key interchange for economic growth, connecting the ports of Southampton and Portsmouth to ship millions of tonnes of freight every year, according to the Government. The project will...
