DfT scraps Cycling Traffic Index due to data ‘limitations’

The DfT has scrapped its Cycling Traffic Index due to what it described as “limitations” in the breadth and quality of the data.

The index was introduced in April 2023 to measure and assess changes in cycling traffic levels across England, providing insights into trends in cycling activity over time. The index used automated cycle count data collected through a sample of road traffic counters capable of counting all types of road vehicle.
