The Government has announced £30m funding to support the re-opening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA). South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard said that the airport would support 5,000 jobs, boost the economy by £5bn and provide wider benefits of £2bn by 2050.
The airport, formerly an RAF base, opened in 2005, serving destinations such as Berlin, Dubrovnik, Paris and Alicante, but closed in 2022 after the then owner Peel Group said it was financially unviable.
