No takers yet for municipal bus company powers

Transport (Scotland) Act 2019 gave local authorities powers to establish new municipal bus companies. The powers came into force in June 2022 but no authorities have committed to establishing municipal companies.

Highland Council is operating a growing number of local bus services using its own fleet and drivers, but has not yet decided whether to establish an arm’s length company under the 2019 powers.
