Low income Londoners make much less use of Oystercards than those on higher incomes, even though the smartcards offer significant savings over most cash fares, according to a report published by the London Assembly's budget committee.
The report came as Ken Livingstone announced that passengers using cash to pay for bus and Tube tickets face an increase of up to 33% from January. Oystercard users will experience much lower fare increases as the mayor tries to increase their take-up rate.
