Network Rail consults on North West rail capacity 'quick hits'

A range of small-scale improvements to the North West's rail network - as well as three station closures - have been outlined in Network Rail's draft route utilisation strategy for the region.

Among the 80 or so options in the ten-year RUS are projects to relocate Salford Crescent station 400 metres north to decongest a bottleneck; a third platform at Manchester Airport; and reinstating the Olive Mount freight chord in Merseyside to improve access to the port. Other proposals include...
