The Conservatives are studying the potential that three major rail investment projects could play in meeting the country's transport needs.
The party is to examine: constructing a TGV-style high speed rail network, probably based upon extending the Channel Tunnel Rail Link northwards; constructing a Maglev-based ultra high speed railway; and developing a new dedicated freight route from the Channel Tunnel to ports and major business centres.
