Typically, people movers are fully automated guideway transportation systems, i.e. driverless vehicles for personal rapid transport (PRT). These systems were analysed in detail in the 1970s and there are an estimated 100 people mover systems installed worldwide, according to German modelling software developer PTV. The majority of the driverless people movers are used for rapid transport between a few origin and destination points as encountered at airports, for example.
