Smart ticketing is strongly supported by the Department for Transport, which has as one of its aims “delivering, with operators and public sector bodies, the infrastructure to enable most public transport journeys to be undertaken using smart ticketing by December 2014 “. So it is perhaps no surprise that proposals for existing and future BRT schemes include smart ticketing elements.
