Bidding to retain any rail franchise has its own peculiar pressures, and in the case of Govia’s attempt to keep its South Central contract, they were among the most intense. The competition may not have had the make or break feel that retaining South West Trains did for Stagecoach or Great Western for First, but it was not far off.
