Johnson leaves door ajar for road pricing in 20-year transport vision

The Mayor of London may not be the greatest fan of the central London congestion charge but his new draft transport strategy refuses to rule out further pricing on the capital’s roads. Andrew Forster looks at some of the main messages contained in the strategy and accompanying draft London Plan.

Boris Johnson may have personally authored the Way to Go! paper that kicked off the revision to the mayor’s transport strategy last year but it’s taken a small army of officials to prepare the draft strategy published last week.

Mike Keegan, TfL’s transport strategy manager, told LTT that the strategy had been prepared by a core team of about eight people, supported by a modelling team of equal size, with input from hundreds of staff across TfL and the Greater London...
