The Department for Transport this morning (Thursday) announced funding for 349 new buses as part of the Green Bus Fund. The vehicles will all enter service before March 2012 and industry estimates are that up to 1000 jobs will be safeguarded as a result of this investment.

Most of the buses that will be funded by the scheme will feature diesel-electric hybrid propulsion, but the fund will also support the purchase of at least 55 new electric buses.
