Walk up fares need to be competitive

Rightly or wrongly the travelling public regard railways as providing a public service and expect walk up and travel fares to be available at competitive prices. Similarly intelligent pricing of off-peak First?Class travel would appeal to a sector with substantial disposable income.

It is to be hoped that Elaine Holt will take these points on board in her “complete review of the fares system based on simplification”.
