Dorset County Council is to guarantee the £3m needed to allow regular rail services between Swanage and the main line rail network.
The Swanage Railway currently operates heritage trains over six miles of track between the Dorset coastal resort town and Norden. To the north of Norden, the line connects with the mainline railway near Wareham. However, trains can only operate on and off the branch using manual point operations.
