High speed rail and Crossrail backed in UK's first National Infrastructure Plan

Prime minister David Cameron today announced the publication of the UK’s first ever infrastructure plan, identifying the scale of the infrastructure challenge and the major economic investment that is needed to underpin sustainable growth in the UK over the coming decades.

For transport the plan backs rail projects such as high speed rail, the Midland Metro light rail system, the construction of Crossrail and upgrades to the East Coast Main Line.
