The secretary of state for transport has announced plans for a major investment in Britain's railways.
Philip Hammond has confirmed the full completion of the Thameslink and Crossrail programmes and announced plans for the procurement of 2,000 new carriages for use across the network.
However, Hammond revealed that the delivery of the Thameslink programme will be "re-profiled" to achieve completion in 2018.
