Puffins: safer than Pelicans, says study

 

Puffin crossings are safer than Pelican crossings according to research commissioned by the DfT.

Puffins include near-side rather than far-side pedestrian crossing indicators. Although they are the DfT’s favoured type of crossing, they do have their critics, with some pedestrians preferring to be able to see a far-side green man as they cross the road.

TRL studied accident data from 50 sites (40 mid-block crossings and ten junctions) that had been converted from Pelican to Puffin...
