City councillors in Edinburgh this week voted to truncate the city’s first tram line even further, saying that the cost of completing a line to the city centre was unacceptably high.

Opposition Labour and Conservative councillors successfully vetoed the ruling Liberal Democrat plans to complete a line from the airport to St Andrew Square. Instead, the line will initially terminate at Haymarket station on the western edge of the city centre.
