The case for domestic high speed rail is overwhelming

The campaign for high speed rail in this country has gained new momentum. Supporters have been buoyed by the recent softening of the government’s approach to rail electrification. Although there is no money on the table yet, transport secretary Ruth Kelly now sees “great potential”. The environmental and economic business cases are getting stronger. Could she soon be saying the same about high speed rail?
