With the Government announcing all sorts of road schemes in the spending round that are being claimed to help the economy and reduce congestion, with no real evidence to show that they will work, isn’t it time to republish Phil Goodwin’s LTT article of 24 August 2006 – ‘Induced traffic again. And again. And again’?

I know it’s only seven years (not the magic eight Phil mentioned) since the article was published but it really needs reading by a number of...
