Cumbria plans new tariffs to tackle shortfall

New on-street tariffs and residents parking permits feature in Cumbria County Council’s plans to raise revenue for the 2014/15 budget, which has been cut by £24.4m this year. 

The council is proposing new on-street parking charges in high streets and retail centres in Carlisle, Maryport, Penrith, Keswick, Kendal and Cockermouth. 

The council calculates that the charges, due to be implemented in the autumn, would generate £350,000 a year.
