While Durham's park & ride service is no doubt “popular and well liked” (PR April), it skims over the major disbenefits of P&R – the hidden cost to the taxpayer for very little gain, if any.
I don't know the cost of ordinary buses in Durham but I suspect that an all-day ticket over a similar distance will be far more than the £2 charged by Durham County Council, which not only has to pay for a high-frequency bus service but also the capital and other revenue...
