HITRANS plans timber train trials

Highlands and Islands Transport Partnership is planning to trial the movement of timber by rail on the Far North line, north of Inverness. The ‘Branchliner’ project would see 500-foot trains, loaded at sidings at Georgemas Junction and a lineside loading facility at Kinbrace, travelling to Inverness where the timber would be unloaded and taken by road to nearby mills.“This trial is crucial to any ambition to provide a regular rail service for timber on the Far North...
