Every £1 of public money spent on London’s cycle hire scheme has delivered just 70p of benefit, according to an economic analysis published by Transport for London.
The outturn benefit:cost ratio (BCR) of the project is 0.7:1, which places the project firmly in the category of poor value for money using the DfT’s classifications.
The scheme receives a subsidy of more than £10m a year from TfL and the subsidy per trip is currently £1.36.
