The National Trust has backed the possibility of a 2.9km tunnel being built to remove traffic from the vicinity of the Stonehenge World Heritage Site.

The Government’s A303/A30/A358 study is assessing three options for re-routing the A303 trunk road from near the stones. Two feature tunnels, of 2.5km or 2.9km in length (LTT 17 Oct).

English Heritage cares for the stones at Stonehenge but the National Trust owns 2,000 acres of the surrounding land.
