Consider the effect of population density on travel. It is unusually easy to research, and the findings are usually straightforward, entirely consistent with theory and commonsense, backed up by good quality data, and important. In a nutshell, studies show that higher density areas have better public transport and more use of it, more walking, lower car ownership and use, more local destinations with shorter average journey length.
