Council faces claims for bridge works

Gwynedd Council is facing claims for about £6m of additional payments from a contractor after a bridge project suffered multiple setbacks.

Pont Briwet, a timber trestle across an estuary north of Harlech, was built in 1860 and carried the Cambrian Coast railway and a local road. The road had a two-tonne weight limit, was single-lane and had no safe space for pedestrians.

Gwynedd led the bridge replacement project, rather than Network Rail as originally intended, to ensure funding criteria...
