The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has supported Transport for London’s policy of allowing taxis but not private hire vehicles to use bus lanes.
Eventech, a subsidiary of private hire firm Addison Lee, brought a judicial review challenge against the policy, saying it was illegal state aid for taxi operators. The ECJ says, however, that the two categories of vehicle “are not comparable” and the policy does not confer a selective economic advantage on taxis.
