Residents in Hackney and Islington to pay diesel surcharge

The London boroughs of Hackney and Islington are to introduce a diesel surcharge on resident parking permits in a bid to improve air quality.

Islington aims to introduce a £96 surcharge in April – its existing permit charge has 13 bands, ranging from zero for an electric vehicle to £434 for a vehicle with emissions of 256g CO2 per km. A vehicle in Band G (151-165gCO2/km) pays £121. Hackney, meanwhile, is proposing a £50 diesel surcharge.
