There is increasing evidence that girls become less physically active as they get older, with an early indicator being fewer girls than boys cycling to school, says the charity Sustrans.

It points out that in the UK 79% of women don’t cycle and fewer than one in ten women cycle more than once a month. 

But, says the charity, this imbalance is being corrected, albeit slowly. It cites a project in York that is encouraging more women to take up cycling. Sustrans Smarter Choices...
