Road traffic grows 2.4% in 2014

The volume of road traffic on Britain’s roads grew sharply last year according to new figures published by the DfT. The estimated overall volume of traffic was 500.5 billion vehicle kilometres, a rise of almost 12 billion (2.4 per cent) on the 488.8 bn km recorded in 2013. Traffic volumes peaked in 2007 at 505.4 bn kms just before the recession hit. Volumes fell to 500.6bn in 2008 and reached a low point of 487.1 bn km in 2012.
