Longer HGVs cut vehicle miles

The DfT’s longer lorry semi-trailer trial (LST) has cut the number of lorry miles travelled on UK roads and had no adverse impact on road safety, according to the latest annual review. 

In 2012 the DfT launched a ten-year trial of LSTs that are up to 2.05 metres longer than the standard 13.6 metres. A maximum of 1,800 LSTs are permitted in the trial.
