Daylight running lights – we’re better off without them

Morten Welde asks why the UK does not require vehicles to use daylight running lights (Letters LTT 07 Aug).

In a written answer dated 25 Feb 2008, the DfT stated that “...the requirement for new types of motor vehicle to be equipped with dedicated daytime running lamps would result in an increase of about 5 per cent in fuel consumption”.
