Roger Davies continues to portray a rose-tinted view of bus services in deregulated Britain. 

The bus services that I used as a student in Nottingham in the early 1980s were far superior to today’s offering except for the late-night services now offered.  I only have to look outside my front door in West Hallam (Derbyshire) to see the effects of pointless daytime competition on evening and Sunday services.
