The A66 trunk road across the Pennines appears to be emerging as the preferred option for a major upgrade to northern Trans-Pennine road links.

The Northern Trans-Pennine strategic routes study, sponsored by the DfT and Transport for the North, is assessing the case for major improvements to “one or both” of the A66/A685 and A69 east-west corridors. 

The study group comprises lead consultant WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff; Halcrow; TRL; and Steer Davies Gleave.
