Northamptonshire County Council’s new parking standards will encourage housing developers to provide more car parking, in response to criticisms that the current standards have created parking problems.

The council’s existing standards, published in 2003, specified maximum amounts of parking for new residential developments in the expectation that this would encourage people to  own fewer cars and reduce car use.
