Longer platforms at Crewe could pave way for HS2 Hub

The possibility of Crewe becoming a major hub for HS2 and conventional rail has moved a step closer with the Government approving an alteration to the station plans. The change will also permit a direct HS2 service to Stoke-on-Trent.

The DfTannounced last week that phase 2a (West Midlands to Crewe) of HS2 would be modified to include 400-metre platforms at Crewe, to allow for the splitting and joining of 200-metre long HS2 trains. This follows last summer’s consultation on the proposals...
