Times campaigns for more action to tackle transport’s air quality issues

The paper has launched a campaign to make the air we breathe in Britain cleaner, and is making no bones about the fact that it is road traffic fumes that are the leading cause of the current state of affairs. Rik Thomas reports

“If Britain is serious about improving the quality of its air then the single most important step is to accelerate the switch from petrol and diesel-fuelled vehicles to electric cars,” an editorial in The Times said on 13 May. “Yet not only is the Government dragging its feet on initiatives to tackle this crisis, some of its actions have undermined progress.
