Strengthening project for Aston Expressway

Birmingham City Council is preparing a £93.5m scheme to strengthen and refurbish a section of the A38(M) Aston Expressway, which connects the M6 and the city centre. 

The Expressway, which opened in 1972, carries more than 90,000 vehicles every weekday between 07.00-19.00. 

Structural monitoring by the MISTRAS Group of the 620-metre long Tame Valley Viaduct, which forms the northern end of the Expressway, has revealed a need for strengthening work.
