Modern PRM-compliant trains may go for scrap or export

InterCity railway carriages refurbished as recently as three years ago are now being scrapped amid concerns over the rail industry’s “incredibly long-winded” process for re-using rolling stock.

Virgin Trains East Coast (VTEC) managed a £21m refurbishment of 401 Mark IV coaches during its short-lived franchise. The work was financed by the coaches’ owner, the rolling stock leasing company (Rosco) Eversholt.
