Devolved bodies take different paths on public transport fares

The first annual rail fares increase since devolution of the Wales and Borders rail franchise confirmed the tendency for devolved bodies to implement lower increases than the UK Government.

Rail fares regulated by the UK Government increased by 2.8 per cent last week, matching the Retail Prices Index (RPI). The Rail Delivery Group said that the average increase across all fares, regulated and unregulated, in Great Britain was 2.7 per cent.
