The DfT has told England’s non-statutory sub-national transport bodies (STBs) to forget about seeking statutory status. 

The message, communicated by transport minister Baroness Vere, is a particular setback to Transport for the South East and the England’s Economic Heartland, which have both prepared applications to be put on a statutory footing. TfSE’s consultation on the powers it wants closed earlier this year and EEH’s closes next week.
