I see the idea of nationwide road pricing has come up again. My view is that it has come 30 years late. Road pricing should have been introduced, along with a number of other less intrusive changes, at the same time as bus deregulation.
The idea of charging drivers for road use is a good one as it doesn’t deter car ownership and is a fair way of collecting funds from road users. It will also encourage motorists to use other modes of transport.
